Dr.  Lyons was raised in eastern Ohio and attended Ohio State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. He then continued on to obtain his Medical Doctorate from Ohio State University College of Medicine.

After graduation Dr. Lyons joined the US Army for his internship at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Lewis, Washington. He then entered a three year Diagnostic Radiology residency at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, where he received his certification from the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Lyons was then named Chief of the Department of Radiology at Irwin Army Hospital, Ft. Riley, Kansas. During his six years of dedicated service to the US Army, Dr. Lyons achieved the rank of Major. Following his successful military career, he then joined Manhattan Radiology.

During his years of practice at Manhattan Radiology, Dr. Lyons helped expand the practice to a Regional Imaging Center, to include many of the surrounding hospitals located within 100 miles of Manhattan. The practice grew to include diagnostic plain film imaging, digital imaging, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography, CT scanning, CT guided biopsy, body, neurological and musculoskeletal  MRI, arteriography, interventional procedures, and diagnostic and therapeutic joint injections.

Dr.  Lyons has served twice as President of the Hospital Medical Staff on two different occasions. He has also served as President of the Manhattan Medical Center, Chairman of the Hospital Credentialing Committee and has participated in numerous medical and community organizations.

His family includes his wife Jan Ferguson Lyons, two daughters, their husbands and seven grandchildren. Through Jan’s efforts, the family established Lyons Ranch, a registered Angus operation located in the Flint Hills of Kansas.  The Lyons Ranch, operated by the Lyons daughters, their husbands and seven grandchildren, has received many seedstock, environmental and stewardship awards.
